Once a project is completed the files are moved to a storage array so I don't need massive amounts of storage I just need performance. My current setup has a 1TB M.2 for Operating System / Programs and a 2TB M.2 for Video files. I do not have a M.2 / SSD / HDD needs as I currently have drives I can use, however I am most certainly open to ideas on the best performing M.2 and SSDs for future consideration. This machine will run 24/7 as it will also be remotely accessible to do production work. I am open to other brands/ideas if costs are better for a great quality product. I'm not fan-locked to Corsair but do like their products. Three screens generally is where I sit, but room for a 4th or 5th is preferred if possible (only one of these monitors would be used for gaming). I'm aware of the BIOS upgrading being needed for this board/CPU combo, however I need to ask: Will this board let me flash the BIOS without the CPU installed (or without the CPU being compatible)? I'm familiar with flashing, but never done it with this board for this particular issue. Five or six USB devices require power and high bandwidth at times, where the rest are low power/bandwidth. Only really need one port at least, but more would be nice if I could. I very much need Thunderbolt 3 or 4 to interface with some video production hardware and touch displays I have. Currently, I have nine USB devices plugged into a 14 port hub. I need as much USB as reasonably possible these days.

The motherboard I picked here seemed to be a good fit for my USB needs. I'd rather have more focus on multi-tasking than outright speed here. It's not uncommon for me to run 6+ heavy applications at once for work, also while having Discord, Chrome, Thunderbird, Spotify, Companion, Voicemeeter, GDrive, and more all running at once. I do not have a need to go above 60fps for non-VR games, but would like my VR experience to be very good (I'm not sure what constitutes as "good" for VR standards).ĪMD has served me well for many applications, both with my own computers and work computers, for multi-core operations.

Most others I play don't really take much to run as I'm a filthy casual these days.

While I currently do not have 4K requirements, it's likely that this computer would last into the era of needing it for me, so I'd like to have 4k/60 support for these programs (but it's not a requirement right now, and I'm not opposed to waiting longer for better GPU's to come down in price in the future).įor home/gaming requirements, I'm interested in getting into VR, my most demanding games are Flight Simulator 2020 and Forza Horizon 5. I frequently work with ProRes files that can be hundreds of gigs in size per file. This cost won't consider storage or extra fans.įor work requirements, I'll primarily use Adobe Premiere, Resolume Arena, and Vectorworks Architect and Vectorworks Spotlight. Would like to keep total cost under $2k, but not opposed to a little higher if it's for an "very much worth it" improvement. Ended up going into laptops for awhile due to work needs, but now I'm looking into getting myself a new desktop.
